When I was asked to go to a Lunessa jewelry-making event, the invite instructed us to bring in “unworn baubles, half pairs of lonely earrings,” so I eagerly dug through my jewelry box and pulled out a few necklaces that I no longer wear but have hung onto for one sentimental reason or another.

At the class, Lunessa designer Elise Perelman (her designs are sold in the store, along with those of select other jewelry designers) patiently discussed with each of us what we didn’t like about the pieces we brought in and how we’d like to change them. I ended up transforming a too-precious necklace into something I’d be more likely to throw on. The original style was made up of pink stones linked by silver pieces, with more pink stones dangling at every inch. I ended up cutting up all the silver parts to free up the stones.

Lunessa also had a tray of tiny semiprecious stones for us to use as we updated our pieces. I strung together a combination of my pink stones, laboradorites, and faceted gold beads on a sturdy but delicate line. I then learned how to “seal” off the necklace with a jewelry clamp, twisted a thin gold wire on either side to connect the stones to a thin gold chain (my metal of choice). Finally, I twisted some more gold wiring to add the clasp, including an extension chain which would allow me to wear my necklace at different lengths.

Reworking an old necklace into something I’d wear made me feel creative and eco-friendly.

The FIT graduate carries her Elise Perelman line, a secondary Lunessa line, and curates a handful of other jewelry vendors. You can find a $35 pair of earrings for a bridesmaid in just the right color or a special piece to adorn you as you make your way down the aisle. The pretty young lady in front of the store is Elise, and I just love the "blueberry" necklace pictured below!

Lunessa is now offering custom jewelry-making parties for bridesmaids, birthdays or any special occasion. This could be a wonderful and creative way to save money and create something special for your day. You can also shop from her website if you can't make it to the store.

Road Trip to IGB Home...in Search of the Perfect Table!

Chelsey and I rented a Zipcar and drove out to IGB Home, a huge warehouse of everything old and beautiful. We were on a search for the perfect new jewelry making table for Lunessa...something rustic and old, yet pretty - with French lines... like a harvest or farm table. Look at all the old wrought iron chandeliers and tables! Sign, heaven.

We finally found the perfect table!! Well, actually we found the perfect base, and then this old wood door which we carefully lay ontop... and together: voila! Hello, Beautiful!

I love these long funky classy freshwater pearl earrings! They are such a good mix of styles that can work for almost any occasion! The Promspot.com used them as a good accessory for your Prom. My talented and beautiful cousin, Sara, wore a pair of these to her wedding as well! :)

Columbus Circle Holiday Market 2008

In December, we set up our annual holiday market up at Columbus Circle. It turned out to be a good season, despite the nagging economic woes! Plus, it was great to reconnect with some of our regular customers and seasonal employees!

Elise Perelman Designs at Jenny Lee Runway Show

On Oct.15th, 2008 the Lunessa Ladies and I had a blast working behind the scenes at the Jenny Lee 2009 Fall Runway show. We spent nearly every waking moment for the week prior working around the clock to design and fabricate new pieces...to match Jenny's delicate & gorgeous couture designs. We actually thought we would be sitting in the front row, enjoying the glamour of watching the runway show, but in fact we worked until the last model traipsed off the runway...making sure the jewelry looked perfect and everyone's outfit switch went smoothly. The show was such a beautiful success!

These long grape cluster earrings were one of my favorites!

This hand-forged Sterling Silver flower necklace with White Topaz was used as a headband in the show!

A classic bridal look-one giant teardrop briolette- simple and clean!
